Ulcer Aid Foundation was founded by Amynah Usman Hamzat, a lawyer and advocate committed to fulfilling the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
For more than 15 years, Amynah grappled with the relentless presence of stomach ulcers. Her journey with this affliction began during her years as a boarding house student, in secondary school, where the daily fare didn’t align with her dietary preferences. Often, she found herself skipping meals, particularly lunchtime.
According to WHO data, in 2018 alone, 5,123 Nigerians died from Stomach Ulcer.

During my undergraduate years, I faced an unexpected adversary – a persistent peptic ulcer. It seemed that stress from medical school and the late-night snacks I enjoyed triggered the painful ulcers that often left me hunched over in agony. It felt like a never-ending battle between my academic pursuits and my health. As I progressed through my undergraduate degree, I realized that I needed to make a change. I began to educate myself about peptic ulcers and it's triggers. Armed with this knowledge, I took deliberate steps to manage my condition. I started prioritizing a healthier diet, avoiding spicy and acidic foods, and reducing my caffeine intake especially that yellow Lipton. Over time, these changes made a significant difference. The peptic ulcers that once disrupted my studies became less frequent and less severe. Now, as I look back on those challenging undergraduate years, I'm grateful for the lessons I've learned.

VOLUNTEEROn my third or fourth day of classes, I was suddenly overcome by the most intense, agonizing stomach pain I had ever experienced. In a room filled with over a thousand people, I couldn't help but scream. Normally, I might have felt embarrassed, but all I could feel was the overwhelming pain. I couldn't think couldn't catch my breath; it was that excruciating. Eventually, I was rushed out of the classroom, taken to the sick bay, and then to my doctor, who diagnosed me with Duodenal ulcer.

VOLUNTEERI have been dealing with peptic Ulcer for the past 10 years at early stage I could take it serious until I started experiencing pains in my scapulars and back pain I had to go for X-ray and the doctor told me that I have the peptic ulcer I have to withdraw myself from taking anything that's going to give me problem, for example when I ever I take Beans it's give me heart burn or if I take late night food.

VOLUNTEERl have been an ulcer patient for more than 8 years. This year June to august, I experienced Constipation and blood in my poo because my ulcer was bleeding. I had endless headache. lower back pains . I have been in and out of the hospital and on PPIs until I decided to do extensive research on what I needed to get better. I had to change my diet to bland food and stopped taking my PP is and my antibiotics Started taking more probiotics and went back to the gym. I've been able to help myself and there's so much improvement for me now
